I start with a very tight drawing. If I am working with a client for a commissioned illustration, we work back and forth in the sketch stage to fine-tune the content and composition to everyone’s satisfaction. I then create the art in clay relief, using rolling pins, garlic presses, fingers and any other tools that work. When I finish the “ClayThing”, I art direct the photography with a professional photographer, and I deliver to my client either a 4x5 transparency or a digital file.
